Hey everyone! Enter your ride HERE to be a part of this month’s Outback of the Month Challenge! Just thought I’d share my problem/solution in case it helps anyone else with intermittent air conditioning. I was having a problem with my a/c system either working or blowing hot air.
What to do about intermittent a / C in Subaru Outback?
To solve the problem, I used a screwdriver to push the clutch in and out (the travel is about a 1 mm to 1.5 mm). I repeated this to all sides of the clutch to ensure that it moved as freely as possible. I then used compressed air to blow out dust from the inside of the clutch and sprayed a little oil in there to keep things lubed up.

2006 Forester 2.5 Automatic 90,000 miles. No problems with starting until last week. One day, drove 10 miles, had breakfast, came out car started fine. Drove another 10 miles, stopped for short errand (@ 10 minutes) came out car started fine. Drove another 10 miles, stopped for another 10 minute errand came out and car wouldn’t start.

The mechanic first said that they thought the Park/Neutral inhibitor switch might be the problem but they checked it and the cable/bushing and said that they didn’t think that was it.
