Is there a difference in 134a Freon brands?
There is no difference between brands of R134A, unless there is some additive in it which will be stated on the label. Some include leak sealer, never use this, ever. The only real difference is Price. DuPont Suva R-134a Refrigerant.
Can you mix synthetic refrigerant with regular?
A: No can do. The system will have to be evacuated properly, to remove any oil and any water or humidity that got in. Then you can add the correct amount of oil and refrigerant, in this case R134a. Modern a/c systems don’t use very much refrigerant, and they’re pretty intolerant of being overcharged.

Dashboard switches appear normal, but a/c clutch does not engage. (Is this properly called a “cycling switch”?) Do not know whether the fan switch was on or off when tested. Not sure what the function of the relay is – perhaps it closes when the fan switch is on? Will check tomorrow morning.
What was the a / C problem on my 1998 Silverado?

How does the air conditioner in a GMC Sierra work?
