The contact owns a 2006 Mazda3. While driving at 60 mph, the shift shocked and bucked. When the contact engaged the brakes, the engine suddenly revved. The vehicle shifted back up to fifth gear and functioned normally. The failure occurred on an intermittent basis no matter the speed.
Why does my Mazda 3 not have a 2nd and 4th?
A lack of 2nd and 4th indicates a problem with one of the clutch packs or shift solenoid as on most cars (and I am sure the 3 is no different) 1st and 3rd are served by one solenoid and 2nd and 4th are served by another one. Best guess is the problem isn’t simply resolved, its just taking a temporary break.
