What is Quantum Scalar i40?
The Quantum Scalar® i40 and i80 libraries are the easy-to-use tape libraries for the growing storage needs of small and medium- sized businesses, as well as remote office environments of larger enterprises.
What is Quantum Scalar?
Quantum’s Scalar® series of tape storage systems are used by tens of thousands of customers around the world, to provide long-term storage for compliance purposes, and for digital media and image archiving. Quantum Scalar tape systems provide the best storage density in the market, at the lowest $ per TB.
What is Quantum Scalar i3?
The Scalar i3 can start as a single 3U system that provides secure, cost-effective backup storage of up to 900 TB. It can scale in 25-slot increments as data volumes increase—all the way up to 12 PB in only 24U. Its Capacity-on-Demand (CoD) software makes growing the system easy and economical.
What is tape library in backup?
Tape libraries and autoloaders automate backups and archives with multiple tapes. Tape libraries offer more capabilities than autoloaders, but are often far more expensive, as well as more complex because they have more tape drives. A tape autoloader is a step up from a single tape drive for backup and archiving.
What is quantum energy?
quantum, in physics, discrete natural unit, or packet, of energy, charge, angular momentum, or other physical property. These particle-like packets of light are called photons, a term also applicable to quanta of other forms of electromagnetic energy such as X rays and gamma rays.
How long do tape drives last?
The letter states that the “physical lifetimes for digital magnetic tape are at least 10 to 20 years.”
How long do LTO tape drives last?
about 30 years
Tape manufacturers usually quote the lifespan of their LTO tapes at about 30 years. However, LTO tapes are extremely sensitive to storage conditions, so this 30-year life expectancy assumes you are using ideal storage conditions – a constant temperature of about 70 degrees Fahrenheit and 40% relative humidity.

Is there any warranty for the scalar I80?
Quantum Scalar i40/i80 User’s Guide, 6-66545-12 Rev A, April 2016, Product of USA. Quantum Corporation provides this publication “as is” without warranty of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to the implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose.
What are the environmental conditions for scalar i40?
The installation site must have the following environmental conditions: • Humidity 20% – 80% non-condensing • Temperature: 50°F – 95°F (10°C – 35°C) • Altitude: –500 to 10,000 feet (–152 to 3048 meters) These environmental conditions apply when the Scalar i40 and Scalar i80 libraries are in operation.
How many drives can I use for scalar I80?
• For Scalar i80 libraries with LTO-7 drives, you can use a maximum of 3 drives. This maximum applies even if you are using other drives in conjunction with the LTO-7 drive, such as using a combination of LTO-7, LTO-6, and LTO-5 drives. Before You Begin You must provide the following items before installing the Scalar i40 and Scalar i80 libraries.
