As you know, kilns are not fired just to a temperature. Cones come in different numbers, each of which corresponds to a heating rate / temperature combination which will make that cone deform. How do you make a cone 10 glaze?
Cone 10 High Fire Dry Glazes are sold dry by the pound in paper sacks. Dry glazes are mixed thick or thin based on application. Start with 10-11 ounces of water per dry pound(16 oz) of glaze. Add another ounce or two of water per pound for clear glazes, or for spraying applications which thin is better.

What happens when you fire cone 10 clay to cone 6?
Cone 10 clay can be used at low fire (Cone 04-06 or at Cone 6), but to reach its maximum strength it should be fired to Cone 10. That will cause the clay to shrink and become dense, and that is ideal, especially for dinnerware.
What is the difference between cone 6 and cone 10?
Most people fire Cone 6 in an electric kiln, because Cone 10 is a lot harder on elements and uses more power. Also remember that you can get excellent Cone 5/6 stoneware and porcelain clay and that there are tons of great glazes available for Cone 5/6 that will deliver stunning results at Cone 6.

Pottery can be reglazed and refried multiple times. Most pottery glazes need to be applied in 1-3 layers. Pottery that has already been fired with a glaze can be re-glazed and fired 2 times.
What happens if you fire cone 10 clay to cone 5?
If you fire a cone 10 clay to cone 5, it will be fine for sculptural or decorative work, but it will not hold up to daily use, microwaves, dishwashers, etc. because it has not matured (it is still too porous). Overfire a clay, and first it becomes brittle, then it starts to melt.
