Can I use any 12V battery in my Prius?
Often yes. The 12 volt battery does not start the Prius. However the Prius will not start if the 12 volt battery is dead. The 12 volt battery powers the cars computers and the Prius will not start or do anything predictable if the 12 volt battery is run down.
Is the Toyota Prius auxiliary battery still good?
I drove it around for an hour just to make sure it was charged up, so hopefully it will be good to go for 4-5 more years. I also bought a trickle charger today on Amazon, of course, and plan to maintain this battery better than the one it replaced. I don’t drive as often as I use to, so that is hard on the 12v battery.
How do you change the 12V battery in a Toyota Prius?
1) Push on the area indicated by the blue arrow and remove the fuse box cover. 2) Flip up the positive cover on the fuse block, circled in red is the 12v positive access location for jumping. Circled in white is the strut bolt which can be used for the negative ground point.
Why does Toyota use a 12V in a Prius?
Safety is not the only reason that Toyota used them in Prius. Because Prius only needs to have the onboard computers turned on to “ready” on, the load placed on the 12v is very minimal.
How much torque does a Toyota Prius have?
Torque = 35 in-lb (4.0 Nm or 41 kg-cm). Note when reinstalling, I just tightened the silver bolt by hand as it goes into a plastic holder that could easily strip. 10) Use a 10mm socket to remove the 3 bolts circled in red, the bolt on the battery post just needs to be loosened.
