Why are my side marker lights not working?
Make sure the trailer side (and the vehicle side while you’re at it) is clean and free of corrosion inside, where the wires attach, and outside on the pins. If you are still having problems inspect the wiring from the connector back and fix any pinched or damaged wires. It could also be a ground issue.
Are side marker lights turn signals?
The front side markers are allowed to flash with the turn signals, but it’s not required. There’s a video below showing a vehicle set up with flashing front side marker lights.
How do side marker lights work?
Side marker lights have single wires, usually of 16-gauge thickness, which lead from the bulb socket to the parking light wire, taillight or main headlight wire loom. They use the standard automotive 12 volts for operation and activate when the headlights are turned on.
Why are my trailer lights not working?
Many trailer problems are due to a poor grounding connection, which is usually the white wire coming out of the trailer plug. If the ground is poor, lights may work intermittently or not at all. Even if the wiring to the plug is adequate, make sure that the ground connections to the trailer frame are good.
What is the purpose of side marker lights?
The purpose of side marker lamps is to enable a driver to see another vehicle that is approaching at an angle at night—and to see it early enough that the driver can stop in time to prevent a collision or, at least, slow down to reduce the severity of the collision.
Why are my marker lights not flashing properly?
Taillights/Marker Lights Not Flashing or Rapid (Hyper) Flashing. For some vehicles this is a common problem after updating the tail lights and/or other signal lights to LED/SMD bulbs. We recommend a couple different ways to address this problem, but first it is important to understand why there is a problem.
Why does my brake light only work on one side?
Since the problem is only on one side, you can rule out the fuse and other parts of the circuit that are shared by both bulbs. I would look closely at the connector for the nonfunctional bulb, as it may be damaged or corroded. If the bulb looks OK, you’ll want to test for power and ground at the bulb.
Why do turn signals stop working after SMD bulbs are installed?
The reason that the turn signals suddenly stop working after LED or SMD bulbs are installed has to do with the load put on the signal flasher relay. In many vehicles, the signal flasher is a thermal flasher design. This type of signal flasher relay work by heating up with the current for the bulbs passes through the relay.
What should I do if my blinker is not working?
The first and easiest way to correct the issue is to change the signal flasher relay to an electronic type signal flasher relay. These electronic units replace the thermal design with a relay that detects a much lower load and begins and “electronic” cycle of open and closed circuit to create the blink rate.
