What happens if you spin the clock spring?
If you were to spin the clock spring a rotation or two and then reinstall it, you may not have enough slack in the internal ribbon before the steering wheel hits full lock. In this case, you run the risk of stretching or breaking the internal wires and damaging a perfectly good clock spring.
How do you set a clock spring in a car?
Rotate the inner part of the clock springs 2.5 turns back. This will set the clock spring on center. Install the steering wheel. Setting the clock spring (centering the clock spring) is very simple and should be completed with care. Note that some vehicles integrate the steering angle sensor into the clock spring.
What to do if your clock spring is broken?
Remove the clock spring while the steering wheel is in a neutral position and be sure not to turn the clock spring after you remove it. Reinstall the clock spring in the same neutral position.
How do you put a spring in a mantle clock?
The movment is likely to be worn because a spring will last a good 30 years in my experience. To insert the spring into the barell use the wire wrapped round the spring as a brace agains the top of the barrel wall and then push the spring in while the wire remains braced above / on the barrel edge to about 3mm.
