What kind of ignition does a Mercruiser have?
I have a 1996 Chaparral 1930 SS. 5.7 Mercruiser V8 with thunderbolt V without the knock sensor. I have the quicksilver instrumentation. Engine S/N 0F781045 So over the winter I have replaced the ignition coil, spark plugs, ignition leads, and distributor cap. Also I replaced all my bellows and gimbal bearing. So my issue.

Is the timing witch on my MerCruiser good?
Also I checked the timing witch is good. I hooked up a electrical meter to both sides of the ignition coil I am getting 12 volts until the rpm drops down then it goes to 3 volts sometimes 0 volts then jumps right back up. I disconnected and rang out the ignition coil.
