Greetings, folks. I recently picked up a 2012 500 EFI and although it ran well during the 30 test drive (after a slow start-up), it’s now exhibiting some problems that seem to be common to these models. *Tough to start; and once it starts, it idles very roughly until it knocks off.

What’s the idle speed on a PRC Polaris Ranger?

Im sure one of the electrical gurus will be on here to help you shortly. I just did the iac harness replacement and now it starts fine and idles at about 1250 rpms, but after it warms up the idling goes as high as 3100…..getting very frustrated. 302 miles since new, what next??? 2 things.

I have a 2011 800XP that ran great until recently. It started idling rough and high and very hard to shift. I replaced the TPS harness with no change. I took it to the dealer, TWICE, and he could find nothing wrong. It does not through a code. The dealer suggested replacing the throttle body to the tune of $500.00.

I started it up sunday, started fine, idled at 1800 for a few minute or so and then down to 1250, and no service engine light. I’m stumped, does it take a while for the computer to clear the code and to return to normal operation?

When acceleration is applied it staggers and farts, until you let off the throttle, then it will run fine at an even RPMs until accelerator is pushed. It will always start right up if it dies and will idle. And run when stopped, in neutral or in gear and rolling. I’m wondering too .. is there a governor that keeps RPM’s down for over reving?

Stalling problems with Rangers. I have been reading a lot of links about this problem Stalling and dying. A lot of advise and a lot of speculation lol. This problem for me is what led me here to the forum. There has been some conversation on this topic here and elsewhere on the net.

You should take apart your air filter. hose down the outer foam, backflush the main air filter for a long time and make sure it’s free of dirt. allow to dry for 12 hours. while the air filter is removed, if you are in a clean environment, you can try running the machine and see if it runs properly.

What’s the throttle cable adjustment on a Ranger?

The throttle cable adjustment is for setting the gas pedal clearance ONLY. You need 1/16″ slack before the throttle linkage begins to pull the plate open. If the adjuster is to tight , your idle will be all over the place and on the high side after warm up.

You can tell if you have this problem by a couple of ways…you will see the arc coming out of the plug wire at the coil and go to the frame (upper strut mount), easier to see at night.
