About CSRA Humane Society The CSRA Humane Society is the only limited-admission “no-kill” shelter in the greater Augusta, GA area. We house approximately 125 cats and dogs on any given day, taking in pets as we have space available.
What is a stray hold?
Stray hold means an animal is under the care of the shelter, but we cannot put the animal up for adoption or make any other decisions regarding its future until the stray hold period has lapsed.

Do dogs remember their previous owners?
Just as humans may remember persons from their past, so too may dogs. The memory of the previous owners is also signaled when a dog is excited and happy to greet an owner who has been away for a prolonged period of time.
Can you scan a pet microchip with your phone?
Unfortunately, no. A smart phone can not and will not ever be able to read a pet’s microchip. There are no apps for iphone or android that do this and there never will be.
Do they euthanize at the Humane Society?
The HSUS is committed to zero euthanasia and the use of truly humane methods.
Does the Humane Society kill?
Although our placement rate exceeds the 90 percent benchmark often used to qualify a shelter as no-kill, we do not identify as a no-kill organization. AHS has an open admission philosophy, which means we accept every animal that is surrendered to us regardless of health, age, breed, or behavior.
What do dogs think about all day?
But we can be pretty sure that they think about us and they think about their daily routine. They have pretty good memories, so they probably also think about events from their recent past. This could range from that time when you rubbed their belly, to that possum they once saw in the backyard.
