What kind of oil does a road King take?
With factory the trany had a whine in first and fifth, the Ames Gear oil fixed that right away. I have a 2009 Road King which I did the first 1000 miles with factory oil then switched to Ames Oil Syn 20/50 in the engine and primary and Ames Heavy Gear in the trany.

Cut the trip short and returned home to check the oil and it being hot checked the manual where it should read on the stick and sure enough just a bit under the full mark for hot conditions. I would guess it was some 3/16ths below the full mark. Added just enough to bring it up to the hot full mark and the red light did not show anymore.

Top breathing engines breath, or vent, through the top breather bolts which are threaded into the heads of a Harley Davidson motor. The air inside a motor is saturated with oil.
