Does belt dressing spray work?
Today, you should never put belt dressing on an EPDM-made serpentine belt. Belt dressing, and other oils and solvents, may quieten the belt noise when first applied, but these oils will actually cause the belt’s rib surface to become more aggressive once they dry out, leading to even more belt noise issues.

Why does my belt keep slipping?
Slipping can be the result of a loss of belt tension (or a weak automatic tensioner) or pulley misalignment. When the belt slips off the track, the friction between the belt and accessory drive pulleys causes the belt to overheat. If you hear a high pitched squealing noise, it’s probably time for a switch.
When does a V-belt slip what happens?
What is belt slippage? Belt slippage occurs whenever torque demand exceeds the available friction between a V-belt and one or more of the pulleys (sheaves). When this occurs, the belt begins to slide backwards a bit as it moves with the pulley.
Where do you spray the tension on a belt?
You need to direct the spray toward the inside of the belts, the part that touches all of the metal pulleys. Since the belt is moving, you only need to find one good location to spray from. Spray the entire length of the belt by holding the nozzle down for 10 seconds or so while the belt goes by. Safety first!
What can I do to stop my belt from squeaking?
It’s not an easy fix for all squeaks. If your belt is slipping because the rubber is starting to dry out, then belt conditioner will stop the squeak by softening it and moisturizing it. If your belt is getting dried out, spray both sides with belt dressing and let it soak into the belt before spraying it again.
What causes a car belt to slip when the engine is off?
Start by simply wiping down the belt with a cloth while the engine is off. If you notice that the cloth is absorbing a lot of liquid as you wipe the belt, it’s likely that oil or some other fluid has been spilled on the belt and is causing it to slip.
