Can a cold engine start a Harley Davidson?
After waiting say 15 or 20 minutes, it starts fine. It doesnt do this all the time and never when I first start with a cold engine. Only after I have been riding awhile sometimes it will start right away but seems after the 4th or 5th stop nothing, it just cranks like it not getting any gas or not firing.
My ’14 Road King has a stage one with S.E. race tuner. It now has 47k on it’s odometer, averages about 42mpg.,runs very strong (slightly faster than a stock M8).I run Redline synthetic & have had no issues or odd noises whatsoever. I love this bike.

All of the 103 & 110 motors have valve noise. Some, more than others. There is nothing wrong. No reason for concern. There is no valve or pushrod adjustment on a stock Harley Davidson Twin Cam. My son’s 2013 Soft Tail Slim 103 got very much louder with the valve noise. My buddies and I pulled the rocker box covers and could not find anything wrong.

Accelerate from a stop in first gear rather hard to about 30 MPH and then brake rather hard using only the rear brake without locking up the wheel and don’t pull in the clutch until the bike slows enough. Do this 2-3 times in succession and you’ll notice that the noise that you thought was the valve train is almost completely gone now.

Some 103 motors tick a little worse than others. It’s really not anything to be overly concerned about. Make sure that you are running a quality oil. We like Spectro oils best. The clunking sound that you hear when you turn your bike off is your compensator assembly. It is a poor design.

Bike hasn’t been ridden in 1.5 years due to medical problems. Bike was stored with fuel in tank but been run to operating temp during that time. No problems when last ridden. I filled tank from 1/4 to full and started test ride. I have put 300 miles on since . Within the first 75 miles, bike developed a engine cut out condition.
