What happens to an AGM battery when it goes flat?
AGM will happily lose charge and regain a full charge and hold it without problems repeatedly. Depends entirely on the battery type. Lead acid ones once fully discharged will never hold full capacity again. Gel batteries although better than the others will last slightly longer but again don’t like to be deep cycled to often.
What happens to a car battery when it goes flat?
I’ve heard that once a car battery goes flat it’s ruined. does anyone know what we mean by ruined. is it completely ruined, like will serve no purpose again, or will it just not be as good??? If it’s been completely drained and left for more than a week – probably ruined. Completely drained and recharged – should be ok.
Can a car battery be charged from a flat state?
My experience is that a standard sealed lead acid battery can be charged from flat so long as you don’t try and start the car when the battery is in a flat state. Having gone through a number of batteries, I have found that it’s attempting to start a car from a flat battery that damages it and results in the battery not being able to hold a charge.
What happens when you use a deep cycle battery?
DEEP CYCLE BATTERY FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS A word of caution: Lead-acid batteries contain a sulfuric acid electrolyte, which is a highly corrosive poison and will produce gasses when recharged and explode if ignited. This will hurt you–BAD!
Why are leisure batteries designed to go flat?
My understanding has always been that Leisure Batteries are designed to go flat, that is bacause of the very nature of their default use. They are made totally different to Car Batteries (Cold Crank ability). The battery that I posted about early last year and after many many months of being prated about the Battery Wholesaler.
Which is better 12V or 24v battery bank?
NOTE you indicated you decided on 24 Volt battery bank BUT IF THAT MEANS YOUR INVERTER CHARGER AND MPPT costs a lot more again ONLY YOU can make that decision. Myself and others have offered opinions on the 12 versus 24 volt battery choice BUT NOW THESE NEW COST FIGURES ADD EVEN MORE CONSIDERATIONS
What happens when a battery is only 12 volts?
When a battery reads only 12 volts under the above conditions, it’s almost fully depleted. Actually, if a battery’s resting voltage is only 12.0 to 12.1 it means only 20 to 25% of its useful energy remains. It’s either a goner or it has been deep cycled, and a battery can only be deep-cycled a limited number of times before it is indeed dead.
How often should a 12V battery be equalized?
Follow safety precautions, use safety goggles, plenty of ventilation, etc. Some battery people recommend equalizing in this manner every three months (or after 5 deep cycles). I think the wear and tear on a 12V battery from equalizing this often does more damage than it’s worth.
