Why does Subaru put oil filter on top?
It’s called gravity, and oil runs downhill, not up. It doesn’t go into some hidden chamber in the engine, because if it did, you could’t drain all the oil out of your car at oil change time. That’s why when you take that top engine element out, the only oil that’s on it, is the residual oil that’s in the element.
How many miles can an oil filter last?
In today’s high-performance engines, the old industry standard of changing your oil and oil filter every 3,000 miles doesn’t hold true. Every vehicle is different, but many manufacturers recommend intervals of 7,500 miles or more.
Do all Subarus take the same oil filter?
So all current production models get the small oil filter as such there is no need for Subaru to keep making available the bigger oil filter even if it would be more beneficial to your 2004 Outback or your 1992 Legacy. The good news is Subaru did lower the price of the blue filter a little.
Are Subaru oil filters interchangeable?
Subaru’s filters are far from the only ones that have that ability, although different filters will activate the bypass at different PSI. For that reason, it’s best to have a filter that’s spec-ed to be compatible with your vehicle, whether the filter is OEM or not.
