Why is there oil in my breather?
If the engine is producing blow-by gases faster than the PCV system can dispose of them, an increasing surplus becomes trapped in the crankcase, causing excess pressure and, inevitably, oil leaks. In addition, the low-level vacuum draws in fresh air to the crankcase from the crankcase breather.
Why is my VW Polo losing coolant?
If coolant from your VW is leaking from the water pump, the internal bearing and seals are most likely weak, and there will be a trail of coolant from the pump region down towards the engine. Coolant hoses also often cause coolant leaks, since they can be damaged by oil leaks and age.
What causes oil to blow by the air filter?
The rings are intended to create a combustion ratio and permit small amounts of engine oil to continue lubricating the inner combustion chamber during each piston stroke. When rings wear out, they loosen and can cause oil ‘blow-by’ — usually displayed by blue smoke coming from the car’s tailpipe while driving.
What happens when an air filter is clogged?
When the air filter becomes clogged with debris, it can cause the engine’s fuel efficiency and power output to decrease. If oil is found inside the air filter, it can also significantly impact the engine’s performance.
Do you need an aftermarket breather system for a VW?
If you have any of the above your engine breather is setup wrong and you will experience running issues. Aftermarket breather hoses and systems are not sold as a one size fits all, you won’t find one for sale in any of the vw shops. I create tailor made breather hoses and systems for customers, please take a look at the items available here.
Why does my car not have a breather system?
Carb Icing restricts the flow of air and fuel and causes your engine to cut out just off choke. If you don’t have a correct breather system installed your engine may over-pressurise resulting in oil spray in the engine bay from the bottom pulley and other places you can’t reach. I have come across it on standard 1600 engines too.
