Why is my Hyundai Terracan overheating on the road?

Why is my Hyundai Terracan overheating on the road?

The car has become untrustworthy for longish journeys, which is a pain as we really do enjoy the comfort and space the car provides. It has been suggested that it might be a blown head gasket or cracked engine block – but will be a very expensive job to check/repair. (There is no emulsion in the coolant).

Why is my Hyundai Terracan going into limp home mode?

Our Terracan has developed an intermittent overheating problem on long journeys. After about 50 mins of driving, it will overheat and go into limp home mode. We can hear the coolant bubbling away under the bonnet! It also becomes noticeably colder in the car just before the engine overheats.

Is the coolant in a Hyundai Terracan KICJ?

There is no emulsion in the water or oil but the coolant is very rusty coloured and dirty. Also, I’m far from convinced that the temp guage is accurate and the cooling fans don’t seem to kicj in either…. BTW, if yours is a diesel like mine then it’s a in-line 4 cylinder not a V6 as stated in one of the replies… Good Luck!!

What should I do if my Terracan overheats?

No leaks, except when it comes over the coolant expansion tank after overheating – no pungent smell of coolant either. Oh and apparently, the pump was checked and its fine. Sounds like a sniff test then and then investigate.

Is it possible to repair a leaking heater core?

Can I repair a leaking heater core? Fixing a leaking heater core will always be much easier than replacing one.   Since it is only a small leak in the heater core, we recommend simply sealing that leak and leaving your heater core in place.

Can a car heater core leak into the cabin?

Even if you have an older vehicle with the heater core outside the cabin, leaking fluid can still find its way into the cabin through the ventilation ducts. Having coolant leaking into the cabin of your vehicle can cause all sorts of problems.

Where does the heater core need to be in a car?

The heater core needs to be right next to the fan that pushes the air through your ventilation system.   That fan needs to be near the firewall of your car so it can have the ability to both pull air in from outside the vehicle, or recirculate the air in the cabin depending on the settings of the system.

What happens if you have a leak in your heater?

The steam can also quickly spread through your ventilation system making it very difficult to remove the odor.   Depending how big the leak is, the steam can cause fogging problems on your windows and leave you with no way to clear the condensation since it is your ventilation system that is spreading the problem.

What should I do if my Hyundai Terracan is leaking?

Always use coolant; never water alone. The air system includes: the intercooler and the engine cooling fan; check that the first is clean and that the fan is working properly. Finally, from oil system, check that the oil cooler on the bottom front part is clean and it does not leak.
