Why is gas leaking out of my carburetor?

Why does fuel leak out of the overflow hose?
There is no overflow hose on either gas tanks or carbs. It is a vent line, and if you are getting gas out of it you have a problem. Fuel coming out of the vent on a carb means you are getting too much fuel into the bowl. This happens when the inlet needle becomes dirty/defective or the float get damaged/out of adjustment.
