Why gas coming out of breather tube?
The reason it comes out of the breather is because the extra gas is essentially overfilling the oil. Ps. Its probably obvious but you also need to change your oil because now you essentially have way too much thin and ultimately oil that does not very lubricate well.

I think you need to remove the carburetor and flip it upside down.While upside down remove the float bowl and look at the float needle and seat.The float should be sitting flat horizontally in referance to the carburetor body.

If fuel is pouring out of the carburetor where the breather tube is supposed to be connected means the carburetor float is likely stuck in the down position causing fuel to continuously gravity feed into the carburetor bowl and pour out of the opening. Why is gas coming out of lawn mower breather tube?
Its possible you may have innocently tiped the mower while sharpenning the blade or left it on a hill and the float couldnt opperate properly causeing the flooding.

What to do when you run carb out of gas?
It was impressive to see the gas just squirting out of the vent tube. Spencerport, NY. You can always try my quick ghetto “rebuild” (works great on Q-jets where pulling the needle and seat out is a pita). Pinch off the fuel line, start the car and run the carb out of gas.

GrizzlyGanz, I checked the vent hose when I got home and it was clear. rentalrider, do I need to remove the fuel tank to replace the fuel shutoff and change the needle. The needle and seat is in the carburator… fuel shut off petcock is under tank, before carb. totally unrelated issues. That’s the bad news.

Carby removed (left choke & throttle linkages attached) & bottom 4 screws removed to get to the float chamber. There was nothing blocking the float valve but gunk on the carby bottom plate (where the drain is at the bottom) so cleaned it all out & replaced.
