Why does my motorcycle stall when idle?
The motorcycle engine often stalls at idle after warm up. The dreaded stalling issue when the engine is warm is the most common idle problem and it is mostly related to the very lean air/fuel ratio on the modern fuel injected motorcycle engine. Your air fuel mixture is lean and thus it stops when slowed down.
What causes a motorcycle to stall at idle?
Or, you could have air leaking around the throttle, just enough to lean it out at idle; the mounting boots could be the leak, or diaphragms in the carbs, that kind of thing. Wow, thanks both of you! I will try these things when my mechanic manual comes for this bike, the owners manual is like “here is the start button, a durr.”
What to do when your dirt bike won’t idle?
Whether you have a 2 stroke or a 4 stroke, if the idle adjustment is set too low, the engine won’t stay running. Turn the idle screw in and see if your dirt bike stays running. You may have to turn the idle down slightly as the engine temperature warms up. Did You Warm The Engine Up?
What should the idle speed be on a motorcycle?
And you will usually not be able to adjust the idle level in any way. Usually we see the idle speed being between 1000 and 1300 RPM (engine revolutions per minute) when the engine is at operating temperature, and often as bit higher during warm up.
What happens if the idle level is too low?
Idle level too low. If the idle level on your (warmed up) engine is lower than the level decided by the manufactorer, you will usually have two problems: – The oil pressure inside the engine will be very low, and you may see the oil pressure lamp flicker. – Charcoal cannister in the tank ventilation line clogged by fuel or dirt.

Can a motorcycle idle be too low or too high?
A motorcycle idle that is a little high is not dangerous for your bike but isn’t optimal either. However, if your bike is revving out, you should shut if off and attempt to resolve the issue or you could blow up the motor. When your idle is high these are usually the problems you come across:

Where is the idle button on a motorcycle?
The screw is usually located on the carburetor near the choke. This same screw system is used on the first generation of fuel injected motorcycle engines. Newer models that have fuel injection systems have an ECU (Engine Control Unit) that controls the idle level. If your bike has an ECU you cannot adjust the idle easily.
