Why does my Mazda make a clunking noise when I hit a bump?
Some vehicles may exhibit a rattle / clunking noise from the rear stabilizer control link when driving on a rough road. Due to excessive impact while driving, a lateral force is applied to the rear stabilizer control link ball joint that creates a gap, resulting in the rattle noise.

Kinda reminded me of like when you have the carburetor at half choke on your lawnmower a little bit but only when he accelerated up to like 2500 rpm’s or so. The Mazda 5 is a clunking blunder! Sway bar links & bushings on the front began clunking at 35,000 km. Replaced them (100 in parts, did it myself) and not 3 weeks later the rear end starts complaining. Replaced same on the rear (70 in parts) and did not solve it like it had solved the front.

The slightest of variations can make a difference. Take the extra step to wrap the springs w/ thin insulator sleeves of silicone or rubber where they get in contact w/ strutmounts, while you’re greasing those bearings.

The small ball bearings weren’t lubed generously. After this procedure, Clunk confirmed gone. This procedure took about less than 2 hours w/ a lift. Prior to this discovery, the tech dismantled the entire suspension of the M3 test car to hunt down the clunk it had, so mine wasn’t an experiment.
