Why does my Hyundai i30 make a ticking noise?
There has been a ticking noise in the motor in my 2009 Hyundai i30 from new. I was told it would go away after the oil change at the 7500 km service, but it got worse and turned into a loud tapping noise over winter. At 9800 km it was diagnosed with piston slap, claimed to be because the wrong pistons had been fitted at the factory.

Oil returns to the sump and in engines over time, the time to get the oil up to the valve rockers and fill crevices takes a little longer as the engine wears. Unless the noise continues when driving or idling, I’d just leave it.

Why does my Hyundai make a rattling noise when I start the car?
The rattle was caused by this metal plate being pushed down slightly (twisted) and was very lightly being tapped by a camshaft lobe as it was turning. It is fixed by 2 screws on the inside of the top engine cover and can be pulled back up slightly to reduce or eliminate the noise.
