Why does my car make a hissing noise when I start up?
My car when i start it up is making this hissing noise the sound i can describe it best as if a tyre is losing air- but its not the tyre, the noise is coming from the engine. When i take the key out, the hissing noise is the last noise I hear until the car dies.
What to do when your car engine is hissing?
Tie your hair back, or keep it up in a safety hat. Roll up your sleeves, tuck in loose shirts or T-shirts, and remove all jewelry—nothing should be hanging down that could get caught up in the fan belt or air conditioning. An electric cooling fan can come on unexpectedly when the engine is running.

This is especially true if the noise comes right in front of your car’s engine. If you hear crunching or clicking noises when turning at high speeds, the most likely problem is a bad coupling at the CV joint. If it is a humming sound, the wheel bearings could be at fault.
