Why does my bike buzz when I try to start it?

Why does my bike buzz when I try to start it?

The buzz is caused by the starter relay cycling rapidly. The battery has enough juice to pull in the relay contacts with a click which routes current to the starter motor. But that load causes the weak battery voltage to drop below what it takes to hold down the relay contacts so they open with a click.

Why does my motorcycle make no noise when I turn it on?

Depending on how low your battery is, if there is some voltage left you may be able to turn the key as well as turn on your blinker, but turning it over is slow and sluggish. If your battery is completely dead, you motorcycle will not make any noise at all when you try to start it.

The solenoid is a little magnet and when you turn the key, it shoots out a small gear that the magnet polarizes. When you turn the key and the battery is dead, you hear the magnet trying to magnetize the gear which is what makes the clicking sound.

If you have a set of jump leads or a booster pack you could try putting the -ve one on the exhaust someplace and the +ve to the starter motor connection. Make sure you are in neutral first.
