Why did my car start make a clicking noise and then cut off?
It might be a battery or alternator problem. If the source of the clicking is electrical, the starter (a small motor energized by the battery that gets the engine running) doesn’t have enough juice to stay powered. So instead, it rapidly turns on and off and produces a clicking noise!
Can a bad alternator cause clicking noise?
It requires a good deal of energy to crank the car’s motor, and if a battery is not replenishing its power properly due to a faulty alternator, it will become drained and ineffective. You will hear a clicking noise while attempting to start the car, and the engine will have difficulty turning over.
Why does my car keep shutting off while driving it?
When there is something wrong with the alternator, the car runs off of the battery. The battery can only run for so long before it’s completely drained. Malfunctioning ignition switch. This loss of power causes the engine of the car to die while driving.

What makes a soft clicking noise after shutting off the car?
Welcome to the GLAowners forum. This has come up before and consensus was it was cat converters under the chassis cooling down. A similar question came up on a soft motor noise from the engine compartment long after shutdown, which pointed to a pump circulating fluid to cool the turbo, IIRC.
Why does my car make a ticking noise when I Turn Off the engine?
I noticed a loud clicking/ticking noise after turning off the car after about 15 min of driving. Prior to turning off the car, I did notice all the temperature gages seemed normal. The noise last for about 2-3min then it stopped. An immediate engine restart and shutoff resulted in the same clicking/ticking noise.
Why do I hear one click when starting my car?
If the battery appears to be charged (the headlights, stereo and other accessories work) but you only hear one click, then the problem probably lies with the starter motor or the solenoid. The solenoid is the switch that engages the starter motor so it turns the flywheel and starts the engine.
