Whilst renewing the flat battery on his Tuscan MKI the owner thought it would be easier to start the car with the new battery outside the car first by using jumper cables on the car terminals, to be able to drive the car out of the garage to get easier acces. But he connected the jumper cables the wrong way around to the car battery terminals….

Why does my positive battery cable spark when I try to?

I first thought the battery was the problem because it was dead. I recharged it twice with it starting. The next time it would not turn over. I changed the starter and I believe my friend crossed the wires causeing it to spark when the cables were attached. either that or I have a ground some where.

Why are my battery cables melting and sparking?

I installed new battery cables and battery and as soon as I touch one cable after the other is connected it sparks like crazy and starts melting the connections on the battery. It doesnt matter if the positive is on first or negative.
