Where is the water intake on an outboard motor?

Where is the water intake on an outboard motor?

The water intake for your engine’s cooling system is located forward of the propeller on the lower unit housing. Look for some cast-in grating or perhaps a screwed-in plastic screen.

Are all outboards water cooled?

Outboard engines are great – if you look after them. With only a very few exceptions (such as Honda’s 2.3hp model) outboard engines are water-cooled. An impeller pump at the bottom of the leg above the gearbox pumps water up to the motor, which then travels back down the leg and exits under water.

Why is my boat motor not spitting out water?

Turn the engine off and check for anything, such as weeds or trash, which may be blocking the water intake. If a foreign object is present, remove it and restart the engine after it has returned to normal temperature. In most outboard motors, the water output is a small tube-like structure that can easily get blocked.

How does an Evinrude outboard motor keep cool?

Supply water to the outboard. Do not run the outboard under any circumstances with the outboard’s water intakes above the surface of the water. They must stay completely submerged. Water intake cools the engine and keeps it from overheating.

Where are the intake screens on an Evinrude Outboard?

Take a look at the water intake screens. They are at the forward part of the underwater part of the outboard, directly in front of the propeller. Remove any debris you find in the screens. Move into clear water if the intake screens keep blocking up.

Where is the water stream fitting on an Evinrude?

Locate the water stream fitting, found at the rear of the motor, at the bottom of the motor cover. Clear the fitting out out by poking a thin piece of wire into it and pulling any debris or insects out. Check the cooling water intakes and clean them out the same way, if they are clogged.

How do you replace a water pump on an Evinrude?

Remove the bolts holding the water pump in place, using an adjustable wrench. Pull the pump cover up and over the top of the driveshaft. Grab the impeller and pull it off the driveshaft just as you did the pump cover. Insert the new impeller — from the pump replacement kit — into the liner of the pump cover.
