Where is the SCR located?
In general, the SCR unit is located between the furnace economizer and the air heater, and the ammonia is injected into the catalyst chamber through an ammonia injection grid. As in other SCR applications, the temperature of operation is critical.
What is SCR system on Kenworth t680?
SCR – Selective Catalytic Reduction is an exhaust aftertreatment technology that utilizes a reductant (DEF) to convert NOx to harmless nitrogen and water.
How does SCR system work?
An SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) system is a system installed on diesel vehicles to reduce harmful Nitrous Oxide (NOx) emissions. It works by injecting an automotive grade urea, or Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) through a specially designed catalyst, into the exhaust stream of a diesel engine.
Which is better EGR or SCR?
EGR also increases ash and soot in the oil. With SCR or Selective Catalytic Reduction, the nitrogen oxide (NOx) reduction process takes place after combustion – so as to not diminish engine performance. The bottom line with EGR is it adds cost, complexity, hotter running performance and increased engine noise.
What is in an SCR catalyst?
Selective catalytic reduction is a catalytic reaction which uses ammonia to reduce oxides of nitrogen (NOx) into harmless nitrogen (N2) and water. Because of this function, the SCR catalyst is sometimes referred to as a NOx catalyst in the industry.
How do I know if my SCR is bad?
Connect the negative lead of your ohmmeter to the anode of the SCR and the positive lead to the cathode of the SCR. Read the resistance value that is displayed on the ohmmeter. It should read a very high value of resistance. If it reads a very low value, then the SCR is shorted and should be replaced.

Is there a problem with the SCR system?
DEF doser could need service, or some component of the DEF system (such as a heater hose) could be faulty. Could be a problem with the DPF… the dash messages are just there to let you know something is amiss… they don’t really do anything to diagnose it further, such as give you PID/SID.
