When do you need to connect a battery to a negative terminal?
When using a battery for both charging and discharging, it is necessary to connect the positive terminal of source to the positive terminal of battery and negative source to the negative terminal of battery. OK got it, but what happens if you put batteries the wrong way?
Why did I connect the battery wrong way around?
I stupidly connected the battery wrongly after re-charging it. The terminals wouldn’t connected properly to the batter the right way around, so I thought that for some reason the cables may have been swapped over. I turned the battery over and connected them fine, but after a few sparks it doesn’t show any power either way.
Can a battery be connected to two different terminals?
With two different batteries, it’s not possible. The SO4 has nowhere to go and make new connections. Thus the chemical and electrical process doesn’t start. You need to realize that the terms positive and negative are relative. The positive side of a battery is only “positive” in relation to the “negative” terminal of the same battery.
What happens if you put batteries side by side?
Check the alignment of every battery. If you have multiple batteries side-by-side, they may alternate directions. This creates a series of current that amplifies the energy produced by the batteries. Make sure each battery faces the direction that’s indicated in the battery compartment or the user manual.
Why are car battery terminals connected wrong way around?
Whilst renewing the flat battery on his Tuscan MKI the owner thought it would be easier to start the car with the new battery outside the car first by using jumper cables on the car terminals, to be able to drive the car out of the garage to get easier acces. But he connected the jumper cables the wrong way around to the car battery terminals….
How can I tell if fitting battery leads wrong way?
There is no – or + on the wires, but one is clearly earthed to the chassis and the other goes to the ammeter I think, and then to the alternator. I would just replace the wire and put it back the other way round but have just read it could be earthed from the positive. How can I tell? And running as I use it most days.
Can a store hook up a car battery backwards?
The store should pay to restore your car to the condition is was in before they messed up the battery installation. The position of the old battery is not material, and is no excuse for the store hooking up the + cable to the – terminal of the battery. They owe you to make it right, it was their mistake.
Can a battery be broken by connecting the wrong way?
Almost all consumer electronics have protection in place to prevent any damage when connecting the battery backwards. Companies know they can’t trust consumer to put the batteries in the correct orientation and it is usually cheaper for them to add the protection then it is to deal with support calls and returns.
