Why is Folkestone Warren closed?
A Kent beach has been closed over fears that it may have become contaminated. The beach at The Warren in Folkestone has been closed indefinitely by the council following coastal erosion. The closure was ordered after the sea was found to have eroded part of the cliff which contained potentially hazardous material.

What was Folkestone Warren used for?
Following the outbreak of war on 3 September 1939 Britain’s railways came under government control. Warren Halt closed on 25 September 1939 but remained in use for railway staff and various other users including military personnel and a doctor. In later years nameboards were changed to Folkestone Warren Staff Halt.
Is the Warren beach Open?
We’re pleased to announce that the beach at The Warren has now been reopened. The results of specialist tests have shown there is no significant risk to public health following the exposure of contaminants from what is believed to be an old landfill site.

How do you get to the Warren Folkestone?
To get to The Warren from the top of the cliff, you can park at the Cliff Top Café in Capel Le Ferne and use this as your refreshment base. Alternatively, you can park at the Little Switzerland Café by the Folkestone East Cliff campsite. There are paths leading down, through the 350 metre high cliffs to the sea front.

The Warren is a wonderful place to walk dogs, and, importantly, they are allowed here all year round. On Folkestone’s other beaches dogs are only allowed on from 1st October to 30th April. The zig-zag path draws you up into the tumbling fauna of the cliffs.

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE FOLKESTONE – DOVER LINE The first proposal for a railway between Dover and London was made in May 1834. On 21 June 1836, Parliament passed an Act incorporating the South Eastern & Dover Railway, which shortly afterwards became the South Eastern Railway. The new company was formed to construct the line from London to Dover.
When did Folkestone Central change its name to Radnor Park?
In September 1886 the name was changed to Radnor Park at a time when a large area of adjacent land had been gifted to the town by Lord Radnor. The station became Folkestone Central on 1 June 1895. Folkestone Central was soon the principal passenger station for the town with goods traffic being concentrated at Folkestone Junction.

In September 1962 Shorncliffe was renamed Folkestone West, whilst the junction station became Folkestone East. In the late 1950s British Rail (Southern Region) installed totem signage at Folkestone Junction, one version of the signs (reading Folkestone ‘Jct’) being proficiently painted over totems from Kenley (Surrey).
