What was last year for carbs on a road King?
HATER OF THE GRAVEL!!!!!! The last year for a carburetor option on any Harley was 2006. I had bought a 2006 E=glide with the carb because it was going to be the last year you could get one. In 2007 Harley came out with the 96 engine and O2 control. A left turning Honda Accord took out my 2006….I miss that bike.

As far as the power unit is concerned, from 1999 the 80cubic inch (1340cc) Evolution engine that originally powered the Road King was replaced by a rubber-mounted 1450cc 88Twin Cam engine. This was retained for 2000. Standard fitment was the 40mm Keihin carburetor.

What kind of idle problem does a road King have?
Rough idle, Carbon fouling the plugs, backfiring, and it sounds like the fuel pump is dumping way too much fuel. It is an 01 Road King with PCM3-USB, Arlen Ness Big Sucker Intake and Wild Pig Slip On’s. Please help!

What causes idle problem on Harley Davidson 01 RK?
Any resistance felt by the IAC will affect your idle. The miniature bearing is a cheap easy fix. Had 3 bikes w/MM injection.. (still have the 01 RK) 1 gave me a little trouble like you were seeing. I took apart all electrical connections and cleaned w/good electronic contact cleaner..No probs since in 25K miles. Friend did same/same result.
The Harley-Davidson FLHR Road King’s engine is authentically vibey and useful enough but don’t expect anything like modern Japanese performance. Classic Harley in every respect: the Harley-Davidson FLHR Road King’s powertrain is understressed, made from girders and been in production for decades, so no worries there.

MY 2000 fxds was a problem child and I DID ALL the repairs on my dime….. all bearings in cams,feuling oil pump n lifters,delkron cam plate,SSgear drive 570 cams. solved that problem… also went with flowed heads manly springs n valves. big bore 95″ and more…
