How much does it cost to ride The Ghan train?
The Ghan Expedition fares are: Gold Single $3,489 / $3,689, Gold Twin $3,699 / $3,889, and Platinum $5,799 / $5,999. Gold Superior fares are available on request. All off-train excursions are included in the price, as are drinks at meals and in the lounge cars.
What is the difference between The Ghan and The Ghan expedition?
There are two choices of itinerary on The Ghan: The Ghan Expedition (4 days/3 nights) or The Ghan (3 days/2 nights). The main difference between the two is that the expedition version includes an additional day in Coober Pedy. You can also do one night journeys if you are very limited on time.

Can you see Ayers Rock from the Ghan?
Seeing Uluru up close is a pilgrimage travellers cross the globe for and when you’re riding on The Ghan Expedition, it’s offered as an upgrade from Alice Springs. A scenic chartered flight can take you directly to Ayers Rock Airport, where you’ll land before travelling to the Mutitjulu Waterhole and Uluru by vehicle.

When did Great Southern rail privatise the Ghan?
The Ghan was privatised in 1997 and has since then been operated by Journey Beyond Rail Expeditions (formerly known as Great Southern Rail), initially as part of the Serco Group. Great Southern Rail was sold to Allegro Funds, a Sydney investment fund, in March 2015. The train usually runs weekly.
