Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) helps the driver avoid frontal collisions while driving at the slow speeds common in urban areas or congested traffic. When driving at low speeds (approximately 4 – 30 km/h) a laser sensor mounted on the windsheild senses the car in front.
When does the SCBs malfunction light come on?
When I got my 2014 Mazda 3 my SCBS didn’t work, nor did the malfunction light come on to notify me. The dealer simply had to re-calibrate the sensor and that seemed to kick-start it, lol… The only time the orange malfunction light comes on is when I have snow/ice covering my windshield/sensor, but it always goes away once it’s cleared.

What is the code for the Check Engine light?
The C1201 code is the one that tells the vehicle to turn on the check engine light and disable the traction and VSC. Basically, when the other two codes pop up, this one is in charge of letting you know there’s a problem.

When do the VSC off and check engine lights come on?
“VSC Off” and “VSC TRAC” lights will often come on when an error code triggers the Check Engine light. It doesn’t necessarily mean there is an issue with those systems. If they all showed up at the same time, it’s likely that diagnosing the cause for the Check Engine light will fix them all.
