What causes tail light to go out but bulb is OK?

I checked the bulb, and it’s not blown. Swapped it out for a new one, and it still doesn’t work. All the other lights are good. Contacts seem reasonably clean. What could cause that? There can’t be a fuse to one bulb, right? Do the plastic bulb mounting brackets for the tail lights just fail? I’m not sure where to start in trying to fix this.

When to replace the tail lamp bulb in your car?

As noted above, once per week, take a few minutes during your day or evening to check if all brake lights are working.
