What are the windings on a Harley Davidson ignition coil?
In this video Bob takes a look at the Harley Davidson ignition coil. The coil consists of two windings of wire, the primary and the secondary.
What are the different types of coils on a Harley?
There are two types of coils used on most Harley-Davidsons. Dual fire and single fire. Dual fire coils send spark to both cylinders, all the time. Regardless of which cylinder is on the compression stroke. Single fire coils designate spark to only the cylinder that is on the compression stroke.
Where does the spark go on a dual fire coil?
Dual fire coils send spark to both cylinders, all the time. Regardless of which cylinder is on the compression stroke. Single fire coils designate spark to only the cylinder that is on the compression stroke. Spark is delivered to one cylinder at a time.

What kind of ohm test does a dual coil Harley Davidson do?
The second (B) being the ION sensor (anti knock thing I think), just leave it out of the test. If you have a dual coil you will have 2 more (C & D) terminals. Test each of these (C & D) to terminal (A) for the primary side ohm test.

What happens when there is no spark from the ignition coil?
1 Power. Two positions of the ignition switch provide power to the positive primary post of the ignition coil. 2 Signal. With no external signal to the coil negative primary post, voltage would travel through the ignition coil windings without inducing any secondary spark. 3 Flow. 4 Open Circuits. …
Is there no power to my coil or to my fuel pump?
Still no power seems to go to either one of those plugs. on the bike. I do have the kill switch in the on posistion. and my bike is in neutral… The starter turns fine.. I havent dug deeper into the fuse block location yet,,, to see if I have a wire that is not where it should be…. or whatever my ole eyeballs can determine…
What to do if your ignition coil is not working?
Older ignition systems used breaker points to interrupt the circuit, while more modern systems “sense” the need for spark by means of a hall-effect switch or crankshaft position sensor. The ignition module uses the information to time spark generation. Test these components if the energized coil fails to function.

What happens when you replace the coil wire on an engine?
You can replace the secondary coil wire on an engine that uses one with an equal length of vacuum hose and the engine will start and run. The powerful spark will travel down the hollow hose to the distributor cap, but the engine will stall under any load because of the weakened spark.
Where can I download a Harley Davidson manual?
Harley Davidson service manuals for download, free! Lots of people charge for motorcycle service and workshop manuals online which is a bit cheeky I reckon as they are freely available all over the internet. £5 each online or download your Harley Davidson manual here for free!! How does the spark plug work on a Harley Davidson?
The primary receives 12 volts from the motorcycle and allows voltage to build; transferring voltage to the secondary winding where voltage is increased to thousands of volts and released through the spark plug wires to the spark plug.
Who was the first president of Harley Davidson?
1907 – The company was transformed into a corporation. The first president of the corporation was Walter Davidson. 1908 – Bill Harley decided to increase engine power through the use of twin cylinders located at an angle of 45 degrees. So the famous V-Twin engine appeared, which later became the Harley brand name.
