How often should you change the fuel filter on a Kawasaki MULE?
If replacing the pump, replace it with the newer style pump, 2012 and newer, which is serviceable. The filter can be replaced-and should be replaced-about every 50 hours or so. They are cheap. It sounds odd, but I really suggest filtering the fuel before it goes into the tank.

Kawi manuals are pretty detailed and have helped me limp along many many times. I have a 2010 Mule 4010. I have had it in the shop every summer since new. It would get hot and die and would refuse to start until it cooled off.
Why is the fuel filter on my Kawasaki Mule Red?
Generally speaking, the filter gets dirty from debris in the fuel (dirt, etc) and then the pump itself starves for fuel, which also lubricates and cools the pump and it’s drive motor. 100% of the time if that is the case, the filter turns black or dark gray or red if your dirt is red like ours is.

The dealers will stonewall you, so just get the new sensor via the parts catalog, it is #21176-2106. There are still some of the old style sensors in the system, so be sure you do not get #21176-2096. Get one and try it before you replace all of them.

People who live in a hot climate run into this type fuel related problem because of the faster evaporation of the fuel. And no, don’t blame it on old gas….i’ve run engines on 2 yo old gas with no problem. I take motors that won’t run and “fix” them easily with this method if it’s a fuel problem.
