What are olivettes used for?
For jigger floats I prefer the Olivette as apposed to shot, normally you are catching lots of fish and often slapping the rig to induce bites. The Olivette makes a nice plop and coupled with the pellet hook bait and float splashing can create a good amount of noise to draw a fish to the hook bait.

As Steve says, they’re just a short light feeder rod that you’d normally use a small weight/arsley bomb with. You can use small feeders with them if you wish.

What is the best pole rig line?
The three most popular diameters are 0.10mm, 0.12mm and 0.14mm, although there might be a need for a stronger line if you are fishing close to snags. The lower-diameter mono is also ideal as a hook-link line if you’re making your own.
Where do sinkers go on a fishing line?
Step 2: Attach 1 or 2 sinkers, 6 to 12 inches above the hook. This weight will keep your bait or lure down in the water and will help swing it away from shore. Step 3: Clip a bobber on the line. A bobber lets you know when fish are biting, because it moves up and down in the water as fish nibble at the bait.
How are Olivettes attached to a fishing rig?
They are good for commercial fishery rigs where other olivettes could ping under strain. The pinned olivettes have short stems protruding from the top and bottom. They are attached to your rig by two small pieces of silicone that slide over the pins. These are prone to pinging off your rig if put under lots of strain.
How many shots are in a small tub of Olivettes?
Theres more than four times the amount of shot that you get in the small tubs so theyre perfect for topping up our seven-way dispensers and also for making up rigs at home. They contain 50g of shot in the non-toxic SSG, AAA, BB, No1, No4, No6 sizes and 100g of soft lead No8s.
What kind of rig to use for bulk shot?
For bulk-shotted rigs I prefer to use olivettes over shot. They are neater and less prone to tangling. The ones I use can be fixed to the line by pulling a small piece of tight-fitting pole elastic through the hole and trimming it flush with the lead.
What kind of weights do you use on a fishing rig?
These are large, streamlined weights that are used to take the majority of the weight needed on the rig (commonly known as a ‘bulk’). You can get two types of olivette: inline and pinned. Inline olivettes normally have a silicon tube passing through the middle, which is where you thread your line.
