Should motorcycle exhaust be wrapped?
The benefit of exhaust heat wrap is that it reduces engine temperature. And the more heat you can remove from the bike, the better it will run. Heat wrap keeps the heat in the exhaust. From here, the exhaust can do a better job of dispelling it resulting in a better running engine.
Does exhaust wrap do anything?
Exhaust wrap will give you more than just awesome looking headers. You’ll also see a reduction in temperatures around the exhaust as well as more horsepower. You’ll get more horsepower because the wrap will keep exhaust heat in the headers instead of dissipating to other areas of your engine.
Why do people tape motorcycle exhaust?
One of the main reasons why motorcycle owners wrap their exhaust systems is that it helps minimize engine temperature. If you ride a Harley or a cruiser where the exhaust pipe is uncomfortably close to your or your pillion rider’s leg, using an exhaust wrap will help to dissipate some of the heat away from your body.
Can you remove exhaust wrap?
Wrap can cause excessive heat and hold and trap moisture and detritus against your exhaust, which will shorten the life of the exhausts. Unless you dig the tattered look of a wrap job coming apart, plan on periodic re-wrapping to keep your exhaust system looking fresh. You have to remove your exhaust to wrap it.
Is smoking exhaust wrap normal?
You’ve finished installing your freshly wrapped headers and exhaust but a few minutes after firing up the engine, you notice your exhaust wrap smoking from the engine bay and exhaust. Not to worry—this is actually normal for newly installed high temp exhaust tape that has not yet been exposed to heat!
Does wrapping exhaust make it quieter?
Exhaust wrap is not specifically designed to reduce the noise coming from a car’s exhaust since its main purpose is to keep heat from escaping. However, the material has sound dampening effects that are able to reduce higher frequencies as opposed to lower frequencies.
Do you have to soak exhaust wrap?
Soaking wrap in bucket of water is not necessary. You may spray the header/exhaust wrap with water (Figure 1). Soaking and spraying exhaust wrap can make installation easier and also reduce the amount of fibers. We recommend just spraying as you go along, not soaking.
Does exhaust wrap cause rust?
The main reason exhaust wrap can cause premature rust is because it holds moisture. If you paint your exhaust parts with a high temperature paint and then wrap them, the rust issue will either be reduced or completely eliminated.
Are there any Buell XB exhaust mufflers available?
Several Buell XB series mufflers exist in the US marketplace. There is published performance data for most of them, either from the manufacturer or aftermarket sources. Much anecdotal information also exists on these mufflers, and comparisons of the mufflers based on this data and anecdotal information is widespread.
What kind of exhaust system does the XB9 use?
The Micron Serpent exhaust system (Figures 17 & 18) was the only full system (i.e., headers and muffler) tested. A single design is used for both the XB9 and the XB12. The stainless steel headers are hydro-formed, which uses high pressure water to expand the tubing into dies.
How does the Buell work on the XB pages?
The standard Buell design routes this back into the airbox and back through the engine. As these vapours will not burn, they result in reduced power. This has been proven in the US to be worth 2-4hp! Not a bad result for another potentially very low cost project. The current breathers come up into the airbox base.
What kind of muffler does Jardine XB9 use?
The Jardine XB9/XB12 mufflers (Figures 13 & 14) are oval can glass pack style mufflers similar to those found on many metric sportbikes. The muffler is available with a titanium, polished aluminum, or carbon fiber outer shell. The mufflers use a wrap around mounting bracket in the rear that does not use the stock Buell crescent support.

What kind of steel is the XB exhaust silencer made of?
Standard XB exhaust silencers are made from mild steel, and prone to rust, whilst the headers are made from stainless and tend to be long lasting. Many owners choose to replace the standard exhausts with something more free flowing, allowing the engine to breathe better. The choice is then between a slip on silencer or a full system.
What’s the difference between a Buell 9 and 12 silencer?
Standard silencer- The Standard Buell silencers differ between the 9 and 12 models, in that the 12 has an exhaust valve controlled by the ECM, whereas the 9 does not. Modded Standard- A Tubbs Special!

Hot Performance Aero Corse Reverso Race Exhaust – Front exit pipe (gases exit in front of and below right foot) as used by Adrenalin Moto on their race XB.
