Should I erase codes on a OBD-II?
The OBD-II edition of the system is standard for cars manufactured since 1996. Anybody with an OBD-II scanner can hook up to the car’s computer and read this automated diagnosis. Clearing the code after the repairs is highly important. Not doing so will leave the “Check Engine” light on, even if there is nothing wrong.
How do I clear my permanent DTC code?
A Permanent Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) is stored when a DTC is confirmed and the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) has been illuminated. A Permanent DTC can only then be cleared by the module strategy and cannot be erased by clearing DTCs with a scan tool, a Keep-Alive Memory (KAM) reset, or battery disconnect.
