Is there a way to start car without key?
If your car starts with a mechanical key, the short answer is “no.” It’s technically possible, but you would probably cause so much damage ripping things apart trying to do it that you would end up wishing you had just called a locksmith instead!
Is it possible for a car to start by itself?
This happens in three possible ways. First, you insert the key into ignition and turn the key. Second, you have a remote starter that activates this process. Third, an exposed wire on the ignition relay shorts out and completes this process.
What to do if your starter is cranking without a key?
Your starter solenoid contacts are welded together. Take your starter out, put in new contacts and a plunger and away you go. Easy fix as long as you haven’t killed your starter already, because then it gets expensive. As a first order effort I pulled the starter and sent to a starter repair shop that I know.
What to do if your car starter won’t start?
It stays engaged and keeps trying to start the already-running engine. If I turn the key to the off position, the engine will stop firing but the starter keeps working. Even more alarmingly, I can completely remove the key from the ignition switch and the starter keeps at it.
What causes a Toyota starter to keep spinning?
When the solenoid gets stuck the starter stays engaged and keeps spinning on its own, when that happens its drawing power directly from the battery not the ignition switch. I wouldnt say its common, but ive seen it happen more that a few times. Never seen an ignition switch go bad on a toyota to cause that problem.
What happens when you remove the starter from a Toyota Sienna?
Starter won’t stop — even if key removed! Starter sometimes fails to turn — sometimes won’t stop turning. The problem with my 2000 Sienna began as a zero response when turning the key to start the van. But with a second attempt the van would start just fine.
