Hy Have same problem c220 Cdi 2002 auto car sometimes starts but sometimes I put key in and nothing happens no noise no crank nothing and I have to hold the key in start position for 5 min then car starts.got it tested and I’ve been told the ecu doesent correspond with starter sometimes!

The car will not start or crank after a few months being idle and all lights etc are functioning as they should. Initially the cooling fan was coming on when the ignition switch was turned to start. Some fiddling about with the ecu and sam and copious amounts of electrical contact spray sorted the cooling fan.
