Is there a problem with my EFI idle?

What does the EFI do on a Harley Davidson?

It’s controlled by output signals from the ECM to open and close as needed to allow enough air into the engine for starting and idle operation. It’s function is to bypass the throttle blade in the intake and allow enough air to bypass the throttle blade to run the engine.

When to replace the idle air control motor on a Harley?

Direct replacement for Harley p/n 27658-06 on 2007+ EFI models except XL Sportster and 08+ TBW touring models.* When fuel injected Harley motorcycles begin to experience a rough or high idle, or a hard start condition, often this is a result of a faulty Idle Air Control ( IAC) or MAP sensor.

Why is my Harley Davidson idle speed erratic?

If you look inside the throttle body there’s a hole in the upper portion and that is what needs to be cleaned out. You’ll usually see some black gunk come out when you clean it. The problem it gives you when it needs cleaning is an erratic idle speed and stalling and usually does not set a code unless they fail.

Can a Harley Davidson EFI idle speed be adjusted?

Below is a section about Idle RPM tuning from official Harley Davidson SE manual (version 2011). The idle RPM can be set to the lowest value (the SE Super Tuner allows 800 RPM as the lowest value for EFI, you cannot set lower) or as slow as the engine is not dying. Below is the “Idle RPM” section from the manual:

What to do when your Harley Davidson Idles?

If you can hold the jumper wires tight in the connector and wiggle your repair area to see if it changes the flash pattern. Fisherking likes this. Try the wiggle test on the injector wires while it’s running. You may still have a bad wire that’s making intermittent contact.

Why does my idle air control keep sticking?

These faults will often produce a trouble code however, intermittent sticking of the Idle Air Control can sometimes only be identified by hard starting, rough idle, or idling high after warmed up. Fits the following models. May fit additional Harley models not listed that use p/n 27658-06 .*

How does electronic fuel injection ( EFI ) work?

To compare, electronic fuel injection (EFI) works with a similar air valve although it may be throttle controlled or controlled electrically. An electric fuel pump provides the fuel at a constant fuel pressure. Electronic controls modulate the duty cycle of electronic fuel injection for the throttle position and other factors.

Can a throttle body EFI be installed on a carburetor?

A more homogeneous air/fuel mixture improves cold starting, idle smoothness, throttle response, fuel economy and emissions. • Throttle body EFI systems can be easily installed on almost any engine with a square bore 4150 or 4500 style intake manifold, including dual quad carburetor setups on higher horsepower engines.

How does electronic fuel injection affect throttle response?

Electronic fuel injection uses pressure to introduce fuel into the engine. This gives the ability of immediate fuel delivery on tip-in of the throttle. This allows for better throttle response over a carburetor. How does camshaft duration and centerline affect fuel management with EFI?
