Is there a fix for Honda Accord oil consumption?

When did Honda Accord start using synthetic oil?
They said my vin number was not included. I noticed ever since Jan. of 2016 when our 2009 Honda Accord EX 2.4 liter 4 cylinder with 122,102 miles started using oil. In looking at my records I see that was when 5W20 synthetic oil was introduced to the car.
