Is the Yamaha Kodiak 400 YFM hard to pull start?
thanks….Ill give them a check. The ATV starts fine with the starter. 1) It is just hard to pull start. 2) When it starts with the starter is clangs and starts. It make noise which is very loud at idle and softens with rpm. I thought it mighty be the cam chain or the tentioner but they seem to be fine.

This and foremost I am working on a 1999 Yamaha Kodiak 400 4×4 (Standard) (YFM400FWB-L)……. My friend dropped it off asking for me to look at it. Now the issue was that some of the wires were melted in the ATV and from what I can recall it was mostly ground wires.

On the Pickup coil I got a peak around 247.2 ac, and on the Source coil I got 87.2 ac*I have also checked the spark plug cap and it is adding 10 ohms to the resistance values to the secondary coil reading. The only thing that gets me closes to a spark in playing with the on/off switch but as I said it checks out fine.*
Is the Kodiak 400 CVT the same generation as the ATV?
Mite be wrong but I don’t think this atv is at all the same generation as yours. This is the old Gen air cooled, 5 speed 400 kodiak, and not the later Gen liquid cooled cvt 400 kodiaks. That is where I am doing a lot of guessing but the function of getting a spark should be generally the same.
