Stuck in Truckee… I have 80,000 miles on an 08 Grand Cherokee (second owner) and am getting Service 4WD on the display. The error code is c1438. I am being told that the transfer case needs to be replaced. It shifts fine and I hear no clunks, grinding or whining noises.

Through research a lot of people have had the FDCM (final drive control module or Transfer Case Control Module) replaced at the dealer for this. I have yet to see a post pointing to this issue in a 2014 or newer WK2, mostly 2012 and older.

A Jeep is work and play. I purchased the Jeep with 75,000 miles on it. It had some problem. The things I have had to deal with are: $250 blower motor control unit, $650 radiator replacement. $95 electric door and window control repair, $450 brake repair. The Jeep has 95,000 miles on it now and it runs strong.
