Is the Jeep Grand Cherokee AWD transfer case needed?
Stuck in Truckee… I have 80,000 miles on an 08 Grand Cherokee (second owner) and am getting Service 4WD on the display. The error code is c1438. I am being told that the transfer case needs to be replaced. It shifts fine and I hear no clunks, grinding or whining noises.

Already had right axle replaced thinking this was the problem/ Thanks can remove front drive shaft and run in 2 wheel drive for the summer and then replace transfer in fall have clutches inside transfer that go bad just bought 2 weeks ago, learned the transmission was shot so i replaced it with a used one with 40k miles on it.

Friday when I got in the Jeep (2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 5.7l), I noticed a quick round of clicking coming from the vehicle at first I didn’t notice any other things until a little more driving. I have narrowed it down to the Transfer Case, but not sure which part to focus on first.

When was transfer case replaced on Jeep WK2?
Through research a lot of people have had the FDCM (final drive control module or Transfer Case Control Module) replaced at the dealer for this. I have yet to see a post pointing to this issue in a 2014 or newer WK2, mostly 2012 and older.

The 1st six were great vehicles except for one transmission in a ’93 Grand Cherokee. My ’02 JGC Overland has had nothing but problems in 111K miles. Brakes, electrical gremlins, heater core @ 99K and now a transmission @ 109K miles. The tech who rebuilt the tranny says rear end due very soon.

My Jeep is AWD and you would never even notice anything was wrong except in the inclimate Ohio weather we are having right now. I was told by a friend that my transfer case needs replaced.

How many miles does a Jeep Grand Cherokee have?
A Jeep is work and play. I purchased the Jeep with 75,000 miles on it. It had some problem. The things I have had to deal with are: $250 blower motor control unit, $650 radiator replacement. $95 electric door and window control repair, $450 brake repair. The Jeep has 95,000 miles on it now and it runs strong.
