Is the automatic column shifter ever coming back?
Oh, sure, the automatic column shifter stuck around, but the manual column shifter was yesterday’s news. And they’re not ever coming back because now we have six-speed manuals, and that would make for one heck of an engineering problem, putting that into a column shifter. It’s worth mentioning that the manual transmission itself is going away.
Why are the gears so hard to shift?
Troubleshooting: Gears are hard to shift. One common complaint many people who drive manual transmission cars have at some point in their ownership is the gears becoming hard to shift. This happens for a variety of reasons.
Are there shift levers coming back to cars?
Are they coming back? Those among you that are (ahem) of a certain age, you will remember when cars and trucks had shift levers right on the steering wheel of the vehicles you owned, and no, we’re not talking about the shift lever for an automatic transmission.
What’s the difference between rod shift and cable shift?
There are two kinds of gear linkage mechanisms – cable shift or rod shift. The rod shift is also called a “direct linkage” and is more durable. Cable shift mechanisms however feel smoother and are used on front wheel drive cars mainly, as it’s easier to package.

Why does my shift shifter not move through gears?
I’d suggest checking the shift linkage on the transmission to see if the cable came off. This is due to the connector end bushing falling apart and not being able to hold the cable on any longer. Some cables have to be replaced as a whole and as with others the bushing can be replaced to fix the cable.

What causes the shift lever to wiggle back and forth?
There is an adjustable connector at the end of the shift cable that hooks to the transmission linkage .. This connector has a locking tab that can be raised so adjustments can be made.. IF that locking tab becomes dislodged (pops up) then you’ll have a lot of lost motion in the shifter circuit.. That is what I suspect the problem is ..
