Is it legal to take your back seats out?
As long as no one actually sits in the back, you will have no problems. In NSW and QLD at least you need an inspection and in NSW also a compliance plate. if the vehicle is not designed by the manufacturer to have the seats removed as a function – been down this route before.
Can a back seat be removed without tools?
If the seats and/or shelf require tools to remove, you run a high risk of having issues particularly at rego time. How do you remove a rear seat base?
The rear edge of the seat is not clipped, so I lifted the base slightly to loosen the mountings. I was then able to force the front edge of the seat straight upwards which released the plastic mounts from the body still attached to the metal seat loops. They didn’t get broken.
