Is it bad to leave Prius running?
You should operate the Prius just as you would any car. Don’t leave it running. You’re just wasting gas when the ICE runs. Also, don’t “pre-warm” the car.
Can I leave my Prius running overnight?
Ideally, once the Prius is running it should remain in the Ready mode for at least 8 hours to fully recharge the 12 volt battery. After this period of time, if the car has another issue with starting it may indicate you need a new battery.
Does Prius charge while idle?
Yes you can idle charge as long as the car is in ‘ready’ mode and the transmission in park. You are best charging the dead battery with a proper charger. 30 minutes will not fully charge it, it will need at least 24 hours on a proper charger.
Why does my Prius battery drain when I leave it open?
If the hatch is left open, your battery will drain. Many have reported this happening to them. I think the main dome lights will shut off after a time if a door is left open, but I’ll have to check on this. The reason the headlight auto-off acts the way it does is because you may actually want or need light with the car powered off.
What happens if the battery on your Prius dies?
But that little one, it can cause some real hell. Batteries die, it’s a fact of life. You don’t close the trunk all the way and the interior light stays on, and, left long enough, the thing will run down and need a jump.
How often does a Toyota Prius need to be charged?
It would be really useful if there was a list of which devices were driven by which battery. The dealer PDI information stated the 12V battery should be charged if the car is left unused every 2 weeks. Trickel charge is recommended. If left longer, the engine should be run in maintenance mode for 30 minutes every 2 months.
Is it bad to sit in the back of a Prius?
Probably worse if you are claustrophobic, because you must wedge yourself between the top of the rear seats and the roof, which thanks to the aerodynamic design of the Prius, goes very slim right there (some of you may be able to fold the back seat down, but not if you have car seats anchored there).
