How to set timing on ZD30 idler gear?
Getting the pump gear and idler gear CC C marks aligned as well as AA A BB B marks even with the chain in the correct position the valve touches the piston when we try to turn engine by hand. (engine was running before we stripped it although very rough)
What’s the timing on a ZD30 injector pump?
As for the pump itself the timing just consists for the sprocket adaptor on front of the pump to be at the 12 o clock position and again so you can push a drill bit or small phillips head screwdriver through the adaptor in to the pumps case as there is a hole on the pumps allu case for this procedure.
What’s the cam timing on a Nissan ZD30?
Pulled head off 180 out and it was not marked when cams came out and the idler pully has been spun around as well so i think i am in a spot of bother.
How often should I Change my ZD30 Turbo?
ZD30’s need regular oil changes, every 5000k is recommended. Take the car for a long drive 1-2 hours at least once a month to help clean some of the carbon out, also a fuel system cleaner will help this process by adding one every four fills. When do you open the throttle on a Nissan ZD30?
The Throttle valve is fully opened when the engine is running. The valve is closed only to perform smooth engine stop when the ignition switch is turned OFF. A feedback sensor (Throttle Position Sensor – TPS) is also installed to ensure the ECM can detect the throttle plates position.
What are the issues with the ZD30 engine?
The ZD30 engine has suffered a poor reputation for premature failures including melting/cracking pistons and overboosting, largely due to some common issues. These engines run a variable vain turbocharger with boost controlled by the ECU, and to meet stringent European emission standards run an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system.

Is the idler gear a semi hunting gear?
The idler gear is also a semi hunting gear, in other words in can take 3-50 turns of the crankshaft to have all the timing marks line up. To now fix this means the idler gear needs to be removed, put in a vice and the 2 spring loaded parts aligned and locked.
How are timing marks aligned on a caterpillar?
Timing marks (1) and timing marks (6) are aligned in order to provide the correct relationship between the piston movement and the valve movement. Note: The rocker arm bolts must be loosened to remove preload from the camshaft. Front cover is removed.
How to install idler gear on a caterpillar?
Clean the bolt and two studs of any old thread lock compound using a wire brush. Apply Loctite 242 to the bolt and the two studs. Install the bolt and two nuts with washers. Torque the bolt and nuts to 55 ± 10 N·m (41 ± 7 lb ft). Install idler gear (1).
